Wedding photography techniques

My name is Ilani de Villiers and I am a professional wedding photographer in Gauteng. Throughout my years of taking pictures of brides, wedding ceremonies and weddings, I have gained expert experience about wedding photography techniques:

Taking pictures of the bride

Although the bride isn’t the only important person to take note of throughout your wedding photography shoot, paying particular attention to her appearance is key. Your job as a wedding photographer is to make sure that she looks her best in each picture (without her even noticing).

If you are taking posed pictures of the bride, make sure that she is avoiding straight limbs. Encourage flowing movements, a slightly tilted head and make sure that her weight is distributed evenly over her feet so that pictures don’t seem forced.

Pictures with the wedding bouquet require specific wedding photography technique (if the flowers are held too high it might spoil certain details of the dress and if they are held too low it could lead to her arms looking stick-like).

Using different lighting techniques for wedding pictures

The best wedding photography shows a combination of specific lenses, lighting and a balanced composition of people and objects in the picture. Lighting can help you create dramatic effects with wedding photography.

It is always a good idea to visit the wedding venue before hand so that you will know if you would be requiring extra indoor studio lights.

Capture unexpected moments during the wedding

As a professional wedding photographer, it is necessary that you are always on your toes. There will probably be posed photos, but the best wedding photographers are able to capture unexpected moments and the true essence of the special day.

When you are taking group shots, don’t only take pictures of everyone smiling at the camera. See how the bride and groom are looking at each other, notice how the bridesmaids are helping the bride fix her dress and take a glance at the groomsmen laughing or discussing something – these are all perfect wedding pictures that a bride would cherish forever.

Hiring an affordable wedding photographer in Gauteng

There are many aspects to becoming a professional photographer (most of which come with dedication, experience and a knack of understanding your clients needs).

If you are looking for professional wedding photography packages at an affordable price, please contact me. I can customise any wedding picture package that you need and I also include a DVD of all the pictures that are taking on your wedding day.
